MAN'S USEFULNESS

From the November 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MAN is dependent upon infinite Mind, or Principle, for his usefulness. The source or basis of man's usefulness is dependable, reliable, trustworthy, constant, and continuous. The source of man's usefulness being the infinite God, or divine Principle, is therefore inexhaustible. The name Principle, divine Principle, itself conveys a sense of stability, dependability. As we grasp these facts of real being, fear of fluctuation and belief in chance, variability, and uncertainty are routed—dispelled from our consciousness.

Principle includes no limitation of time or age; nor does Principle include any laws of depression, or laws of overproduction. In fact, Principle includes nothing harmful, nothing limiting or obstructive to man's constant, continuous usefulness. Divine Principle can never be the cause of any separation between supply and demand. If separation of supply and demand were possible, if Mind, the Principle or cause of all being, could include, impart, or be conscious of that for which there was no need, no demand, then there would be some thing superfluous, useless, unneeded, unwelcome, in God's creation. Indeed, we should have an unprincipled creation, a creation without a dependably wise, intelligent, loving source or cause.

Christian Science enables humanity to gain such an understanding of God, Principle, and His creation of ideas that it becomes obvious and certain that He supplies what man demands, and that man in His likeness spiritually demands or needs what God infinitely supplies. God supplies that which alone is real, actual, true, spiritual, that which rests on Principle. Think what it means to know that the real man's usefulness, employment, supply—yes, man's being or existence—rest secure, eternal, enduring, upon divine Principle! Untouched by speculation, untouched by fluctuation, inaccessible to dishonesty, jealousy, injustice, and partiality are man's usefulness, employment, supply, health, and harmony, all resting upon his divine Principle, God.
