I turned to Christian Science...

From the November 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I turned to Christian Science for physical healing, but with no thought or desire for it as a religion. During my first visit to a practitioner she explained to me that God is Love and can bestow only good upon His children. I exclaimed, "I could love such a God, for I have believed Him to be just the opposite of a loving Father!"

I attended the Wednesday testimony meetings regularly, and the Sunday services occasionally. When I had been interested in Christian Science for a year I reviewed this period, and was grateful for the changes which had taken place in my thinking. For one thing I discovered I had been healed of not wanting to go to the Sunday services, for I was then attending church every Sunday.

One morning I awakened early with neuralgia in face and head. My first thoughts were filled with fear, because I had an attack before becoming interested in Christian Science and was confined indoors for a week. However, when I finished reading the Lesson-Sermon I felt confident that Truth would meet my need quickly. I went to the office as usual, but it was necessary several times to go to an unoccupied office to do my mental work, as the pain seemed unbearable and a swollen face nearly closed one eye. When my noon hour arrived I visited a near-by Christian Science Reading Room, and sitting down with some of Mrs. Eddy's writings I opened "Unity of Good" and studied the article, "There Is No Matter" (pp. 31-36). Time and location faded from consciousness, but lifting my head to glance across the room, I realized that the pain had disappeared as well as the swollen condition of my face. It was then the middle of the afternoon, and I was free.
