When a young girl I was stricken with a severe and painful stomach disorder. I went from one physician to another, tried surgery and medicine, chiropractic treatment and osteopathy, all to no avail. At the end of several years I found myself in a deplorable condition, unable to partake of food, except liquid in small quantities, suffering from partial paralysis of the bowels, and in constant pain. I was taking strong drugs, although they did not relieve me; but I was told I could not live without them.
At this time a friend lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It opened a door of hope for me which has never been closed. I discarded the drugs, very fearfully at first, and called a Christian Science practitioner. My healing was slow, but wonderful. I had been literally afraid of everything, especially food of all kinds, and this fear had to be cast out.
After a few years of complete freedom, this difficulty was again manifested, though in lesser measure. Being more firmly grounded in the truth, I applied my own understanding, with the help of occasional visits to a practitioner. After over a year of striving to know that this so-called disease had never been real, I was then permanently healed. I eat anything that is set before me, giving thanks to God that there is no incurable disease. The doctors had said I could not possibly get well, but must suffer as long as I lived.
