Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science found me in...

From the September 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science found me in a hospital recovering from an emergency operation for appendicitis, after they had said that blood poisoning had set in. My mother, at that time the only one in our immediate household who had heard of Christian Science and its beneficent healing influence, in her extremity turned to a Christian Science practitioner for aid in removing the fears which thronged for admittance to her thought. Then a marvelous thing occurred — that is, marveled at by physicians attending the case! During the six weeks' interval I was entirely free from pain, and no drugs were administered for the proper performance of the natural functions. When I left the hospital the physician ordered a specially constructed abdominal binder for me to wear to avoid internal complications, and I was told I should not set foot on the floor for the next six months without this protector. It was during the following two weeks, while reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that I glimpsed something of God's law, and saw that it was not a law which bound mankind or permitted such restriction, but was expressed in freedom, strength, and ability to experience "dominion . . . over all the earth." I accepted an invitation to go swimming, leaving the binder at home, and I recall with what joy I kept declaring that God's law alone governed. Later in the week I called on the physician and informed him that I was completely healed. He gave me a thorough examination and with surprise said that I did not need the belt any longer. Since that day, some fifteen years ago, Christian Science has been my only physician, counselor, guide. A better living, accompanied by less fear, a greater endeavor to manifest good, and a more joyous sense of God's presence have come in the years which have followed. It was an inestimable privilege to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. For membership in The Mother Church, for the abundant blessing of serving in a branch church, and for the advantage of receiving class instruction, I am sincerely grateful.—
