I am submitting this testimony in gratitude to God. About seven years ago I was taken ill with a distressing nerve trouble which took the most severe form. In fact I was ill mentally. Every medical remedy was applied, but without success.
One afternoon in July, 1931, my condition was so serious that I could hardly bear the thought of living longer. In this mental distress there came to me a good thought. Many years before I had heard of Christian Science, and now I placed my entire hope in it. From the very first hour I was firmly confident of becoming better, and wrote to a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly gave me help at once. I constantly prayed to God for more spiritual understanding; then I bought the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and studied it daily. Success, however, was only gradually attained. Again and again error tried to assert its claim of power over Truth, but I waited patiently. Although it often seemed as if error would not yield, the passage from page 22 of Science and Health proved to be a great help to me: "If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race. When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving." I can now honestly say that I no longer have any trouble, but am entirely well.
I am grateful with all my heart to our beloved Leader for the discovery of Christian Science, and also to the practitioner for his constant readiness to help.— Kreiensen am Harz, Germany.
