Testimonies of Healing

In March, 1929, I was diagnosed...

From the August 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In March, 1929, I was diagnosed by a leading university clinic as having tuberculosis in both lungs, complicated by a tubercular larynx; and I immediately went to a sanitarium which they recommended, and at which I spent seven weeks. After a great deal of unrest and dissatisfaction, and on the advice of my physician, I left this climate for the higher altitude of New Mexico, where I spent four months in another sanitarium. After leaving this place I went to a still higher altitude in the mountains near by, and continued to take the cure prescribed. In the late fall I left for the warmer climate of California. Upon my arrival there I consulted a physician who is considered one of the country's foremost authorities on diseases of the chest. He spoke very discouragingly about my case and emphatically stated that I should enter his sanitarium. He said he could not guarantee a cure, but he was sure that their system of serum injections would do me some good. On account of their high rates, I was financially unable to do this.

Christian Science had been brought to my attention previous to this, but I had never seriously taken up the study. In February, 1930, while I was in California, my mother sent me my Bible and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and I immediately started to read and study them. I returned to the mountains of New Mexico that spring, and a great improvement was noted at about this time. My mother, with my consent, consulted a Christian Science practitioner, who proceeded to treat me, and in a short time I forgot all about tuberculosis, and was out fishing and walking about through the mountains. I returned to Chicago in the early part of 1931 and was examined thoroughly by a local physician, who pronounced my lungs healed.

I am grateful for Christian Science and for the help of practitioners and for what this Science has done for me and for my immediate family. I am particularly grateful for the spiritual understanding which has come to me through diligent study.—
