It is with sincere gratitude that I give this testimony of the benefits received through the study and application of Christian Science. For many years and in many ways I tried to understand the Bible, but could get only a literal understanding until I began to study it in connection with the Christian Science textbook by Mrs. Eddy. For the work of this consecrated and divinely inspired woman I am increasingly grateful. Until I studied Science and Health I could not conscientiously repeat the Lord's Prayer without changing the clause, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors," to, Help me to know how to forgive. I have put this truth to the severest tests and have always found it sufficient to break down every obstacle in the path to freedom.
I am grateful for many physical healings. One was of severe sunburn on our small son. The entire body, except that protected by a very scant bathing suit, was badly blistered. He became delirious and rigid. At about eleven o'clock at night a practitioner was called, and by nine the next morning the boy was dressed and playing in the sunshine. In three or four days no trace of the trouble was left. No material remedy was used, only radical reliance on God, Truth. I am especially grateful for this wonderful healing, for prior to that time I had wondered if my faith was sufficient; when the testing time came I learned that I could not rely on any but God.
Glasses, which our daughter was positively told must be worn all the time, were permanently laid aside. This healing came about before a letter had reached the practitioner, thus proving the words from Isaiah, "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." My husband's mother was healed of a serious heart trouble, after two physicians had told her there was no medicine made which could help her. I have been healed of an internal trouble through the help of the children. One day while ironing I was suddenly unable to stand. I went to lie down, at the same time calling our four-year-old son and asking him to help me. In his simple, childlike way he said, "Go to sleep, mamma; God will heal you." God did heal me, for in a few minutes I resumed my task and have never been troubled in this way since. That was over six years ago, and it made me see that to come to the throne of grace in prayer we must be honest and trusting. By studying the words from II Corinthians 8:11– 14, employment was found at a time when every avenue seemed to be closed. Our Leader's words, "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 307), have been proved over and over. Discord in the home, lack, sorrow, illness, ignorance, and hate have given place to harmony, supply, joy, health, understanding, and love.
