Over thirty years ago Christian Science was recommended to me after doctors had diagnosed my trouble as a complication of diseases—arthritis, hardening of the arteries, and enlarged heart. For ten years I had tried a number of prominent physicians and specialists, and their prescribed treatments, but I finally became helpless and had to sit in an invalid's chair.
The minister of the church of which I then was a member came and prayed for me, saying, "If you could just believe as they did in olden times, you could be healed." I asked how I could find that faith, and he said that he did not know. That same day a Christian Science practitioner came to my home on a business errand, and hearing of my condition said to my wife: "Your husband does not need to die. Tell him to try Christian science." We had never before heard of this Science. I was taken across the street to the practitioner's home, where she told me about the healing Christ, and the light pierced the dark shadows of my thinking. The uplifting was so wonderful that I knew I was healed. I went home alone. The next morning I had to be awakened, and I found that I was living in a new world.
Soon I returned to my position as an executive in a large manufacturing plant; in six months I received a promotion. A year later I took out a life insurance policy, and during the examination the physician said that he did not find any trace of the former painful complications. Over two years ago, or twenty-eight years after my healing, I applied for more insurance, which was granted, showing that when God heals us and we are faithful to His trust, the healing is permanent.
