ALTHOUGH I was brought up to attend church and read the Bible, I refused to have anything to do with Christian Science when it was first presented to me. I could not, however, forget what I had heard, and I soon began to lose interest in my religion; my ideas of God became confused and I was utterly miserable. In this extremity I decided to attend a service at a Christian Science church. The simplicity and sincerity of that service impressed me deeply and I found myself looking forward to attending the church again.
From that moment hope returned, for I realized that I had found the truth. Very soon I was privileged to prove for myself the healing power of Christian Science. Whilst on a holiday abroad and unable to get in touch quickly with a practitioner, I was taken ill with a liver complaint from which I previously had suffered, and which always had lasted several weeks. On this occasion, however, I was healed in less than a day simply by reading from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Since then, as I have gained a better understanding of God and of man as His image and likeness, I have had many proofs of the Father's ever-presence. Glasses, which had been worn for sixteen years, were found to be no longer necessary. Chronic headaches, influenza, and other physical difficulties have been healed. On one occasion one of my arms was paralyzed with neuritis; I was unable to raise it or to hold anything in my hand. Through persistent application of the truth about God and His creation I was able to carry out my duties, including those of pianist, as usual; and it was not long before my arm was normal. Many faults of character have been overcome and business problems solved. I have proved also that even a slight understanding of God's all-power protects from accident and destroys fear.
