BEING a homemaker and a mother, for a long time I had been seeking a religion which could be applied to my daily life. Then I found Christian Science. With a heart overflowing with gratitude for what Science has done for our family, I wish to relate a physical healing which I experienced shortly after beginning the study of this Science.
I was greatly impressed by the wonderful testimonies of physical healings found in the periodicals. I had never heard of a religion which could bring about physical healings. Immediately I became fearful that I might have another attack of sinus trouble and wondered what I should do about it. The first attack of this trouble, years before, came about through mental suggestion. A friend, who was a very enthusiastic student of materia medica, described most minutely the symptoms of this particular disease, which he had studied that day. I was very much interested because I had never heard of it before. The next morning I was very sick. A specialist was called, who said that I had every symptom of sinus trouble. Thereafter I suffered from this condition for years and was treated by eminent physicians in different parts of the country. A Christian Science practitioner was called at different times and relief was experienced, but the condition would return. Once when it seemed worse than ever before, a practitioner was called, but she was not at home. Then the thought came as clearly as an audible voice, Why don't you try yourself to realize and apply some of the many truths you have been told?
When the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was opened, these words attracted my attention (p. 567): "That old serpent whose name is devil (evil), claiming that there is intelligence in matter either to benefit or to injure men—is pure delusion, the red dragon; and it is cast out by Christ, Truth, the spiritual idea, and so proved to be powerless." I was instantaneously healed. This was over eight years ago.
