I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science. Fifteen years ago I was unable to eat or even to get out of bed. Doctors had done all they could for me. I had been operated on, but to no avail. I was most unhappy, and the only way I knew how to pray was to plead with God in a vague way for my desires; and having been taught that death ended all suffering, I prayed to die. But through all this sorrow I wondered how it was that Jesus was able to heal when he was here on earth, and I questioned why healings could not be accomplished today as well as then. My mother heard of Christian Science and went to see a practitioner, and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was sent to me. With the help of a practitioner, and by learning to have faith like the woman in the Bible who "said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole," I was healed in three weeks.
Since then I have had many healings—some of them of sick headaches, pyorrhea, burns, colds, constipation, and skin diseases, and I have been protected in accidents. I was in the midst of an explosion of gas in which I was surrounded with flame, but like the Hebrew boys I came out without even "the smell of fire," simply by realizing that God is ever present. I have had healings of grief and unhappiness; and the fact that God is the source of our supply has been proved when the material senses could see no way. For all these and many more healings I am grateful; but for the understanding of the Bible gained through the study and application of Christian Science, I am even more grateful.
Words fail to express all that I feel toward this Science. Membership in The Mother Church and the joy of serving in a branch church as a Reader are great privileges; and to have had class instruction is truly partaking of the crumbs from Christ's table. For the Christian Science literature, and for all these blessings, I am very grateful. I hope to prove my love and gratitude for Christian Science by living in obedience to the laws of this Science. I am happy to see that to a great degree the world is acknowledging the truth that Mrs. Eddy, our inspired and revered Leader, has so marvelously set forth in our textbook. With a heart full of love to the world I acknowledge the blessings so graciously bestowed upon me through the study and application of Christian Science, the Comforter.—Coalinga, California.
