UNLABORED LOVE

From the March 1937 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"God pours the riches of His love into the understanding and affections, giving us strength according to our day" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 5). Such is the abundant love of God!

How eagerly we open our hearts to the healing truth when we first become interested in Christian Science! How beautiful it seems, after the darkness and pain of mortal striving! How grateful we are for our first demonstrations of the new old truth that God is all-powerful and pours only blessings upon all! We gain more and more of the truth from the church services; seek earnestly the Christ, which Jesus manifested, strive to follow his example. And when our hearts are filled to overflowing with gratitude for Christian Science, we knock humbly at the door of our local church home for admittance to membership.

Such is the natural unfoldment when Love is bountifully expressed by the church. Strangers come to our churches for many reasons, and continue to come because they realize that they take something worth while away with them. What they receive of the truth expressed in the services, is what they take away. The church services should impart a sense of peace and harmony, of brotherly love, a sense of God's great goodness and ever-presence, and a certain sense of the healing power of Truth. Understanding the infinite power of Love to protect, provide, console, and heal, we see it is only natural that Christian Scientists express love toward all their fellow men. To withhold an expression of love or kindness is to attempt to thwart the purpose of divine Love. It is possible in Christian Science to do little things in a helpful way through love. As we do this, love unfolds in our thought until it embraces the world and we know that we have found that priceless something everyone is seeking.
