I attended the Christian Science church and casually read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for several years before actually taking up its study in earnest. I had faith and believed the truths I read because I invariably received help when I asked for it. However, I never appreciated the practitioner's work until after I began the study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's works. This awakened me to the noble and unselfish work these people are doing, and gratitude for this resulted in the healing of a problem of position or place, which was confronting me at the time.
I desire to relate a specific instance of the readiness and willingness of divine Principle to meet my need in what, to material sense, would seem a miraculous manner.
My husband, whose business keeps him on the road a large part of the time, wrote me that while en route from Des Moines to New York he had lost a roll of bills that amounted to a considerable sum of money. He seemed very much disturbed, and that was also my first reaction upon reading his letter. However, I immediately remembered that nothing is impossible to God, and that nothing is impossible to man as God's reflection; that I had all the understanding I needed at the given moment. The suggestions arose to the effect that in this case mental or spiritual help could avail me nothing, for the money was supposedly lost at night and might have been blown away, been picked up by someone, or hidden from sight by a number of things; that if it were anything but currency, there might be some chance of recovery, and many other suggestions that mortal mind is prone to put forth.
