I am deeply grateful for Christian Science, and for the wonderment and joy of my first Christian Science treatment. After several days' illness I had collapsed, and had been carried to my room. My husband got in touch with a practitioner, whom we had never met before, and asked her to call on me. She told him it was impossible for her to make the call, but that if I desired it, she would give me an absent treatment, to which I gladly consented. I was completely healed, and the next morning called at her office, several miles from my home.
There have been many similar experiences. When fear or anxiety about financial problems and family relationships became more burdensome than I could endure, I would ask for help. Very often in one treatment the trouble would be dissolved, and a clearer realization would be glimpsed of God and man, and of man's inseparable relationship to God.
In those early days I often asked myself, What is there about a Christian Science treatment that is so farreaching and powerful as to change chaos into order, sickness into health? As I became a student of Christian Science, I learned that it is the power of righteous prayer, the affirmation of good and the denial of evil or error, as taught by the Master, and elucidated by Christian Science. When the disciples asked him why they could not heal a particular case, Jesus said, "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
