Twelve years ago, not knowing anything about this great truth— Christian Science—and in a very unhappy state of mind, I tried to take my life. I was taken to a hospital in Drammen, Norway, where I then resided. After being discharged, I went to live in Oslo, and for six months attended to business transactions. However, the experience through which I had just passed forced me to change my whole life.
I had been brought up to be a Lutheran, but had never confessed any religious views. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." In my great hour of need my heart went out to God in prayer, as it had never done before. Great peace came over me through this experience, and in two days my answer came through finding the announcement of a Christian Science service, which was to be held the following day in English.
I had previously lived in England and the United States of America, but had never heard of Christian Science before. At my first service I found that it was the only solution to my troubles. On hearing the invitation to visit the Reading Room I went the following day to borrow the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health. I had a helpful talk with the librarian, and then visited an experienced Christian Science practitioner.
