OVERCOMING "THE LAST ENEMY"

From the April 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE Master said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly," and he verified this statement by saving the sinner, healing the sick, and raising the dead, in proof of his Messiahship.

In covering the great subject of salvation, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, speaks of it as the overcoming of sin, disease, and death. Individual demonstrations, supplemented by a never-ending stream of articles in the Christian Science periodicals, explaining how to conquer disease and sinful temptations, leave but little that needs to be said on these two phases of this triad of errors; but it is of vital interest to all workers in Christian Science to consider how the master Metaphysician coped with what Paul speaks of as "the last enemy that shall be destroyed."

The Scriptures give vivid accounts of three marvelous demonstrations over death before the Saviour of the world crossed swords with this archenemy in his own experience. One was for a child of twelve years, the little daughter of Jairus; another was for a young man, the only son of the widow of Nain; and the third whom Jesus raised from the dead was a personal friend of the Master who lived in the town of Bethany, one Lazarus by name.
