My first introduction to Christian Science came through the reading of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
I was seeking, not a physical healing, but a religion which taught the truth about God. As I read the textbook, I realized that here was what I had been seeking, and by the time I had finished reading the book, a serious condition of the eyes, called double vision, was entirely healed. I was able to lay aside glasses which I had been told I should have to wear continually. Fifteen years later, when, due to conditions of employment, it was necessary for me to pass an eye examination, the examiner stated that he had never in his long experience examined a more perfect pair of eyes.
After I experienced this healing, it seemed easier to meet other physical disorders, such as chronic quinsy, and to prove Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 217), "When you have once conquered a diseased condition of the body through Mind, that condition never recurs." Bent finger bones straightened out while I was working out another physical difficulty in Science. Severe cuts were so completely healed that within two days no trace could be found of the break in the skin. A sprained ankle was healed in one day.
