THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE READING ROOM

From the May 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Science Reading Room is one of the many essential activities of the Christian Science movement.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was divinely directed to protect her revelation of Christian Science against the danger of adulteration. As one of the safeguards, she provided that "each church of the Christian Science denomination shall have a Reading Room" (Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XXI, Sect. 1); and in these Reading Rooms the authorized literature of Christian Science may be read, borrowed, or purchased.

The Reading Room may be said to be a missionary enterprise of the church, spreading the gospel of Christian Science through making easily accessible the Bible and our Leader's writings, and the Christian Science periodicals. Here, the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, which are read each Sunday in all Christian Science church services, are available for daily study.
