It is my desire to express gratitude to Christian Science for the blessings it has brought me. I took up its study sixteen years ago for the healing of a stubborn skin disease. The healing was slow, but I am grateful that it was accompanied by the gradual overcoming of faults of disposition, and my learning to maintain tolerance and poise amidst conditions of confusion and discord.
On page 94 of "Retrospection and Introspection," Mrs. Eddy says, "When all fleshly belief is annihilated, and every spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness is removed, then, and not till then, will immortal Truth be found true, and scientific teaching, preaching, and practice be essentially one. 'Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. . . . for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.' (Romans xiv. 22, 23.)"
One of the first statements in Science and Health which I pondered deeply is found on page 203, namely, "If God were understood instead of being merely believed, this understanding would establish health." It is the understanding of God as taught in Christian Science that has healed me of many ills, including a tumor, grippe, grief after the passing on of a loved one, stiff neck, and pleurisy. For the overcoming of all these difficulties, for the practitioners who so loyally and tirelessly have helped me, for Mrs. Eddy, for Christian Science, and for Christ Jesus, I am indeed grateful.— Chicago, Illinois.
