DEMONSTRATING OUR SPIRITUAL IDENTITY

From the November 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is a divine revelation, whereby mankind may learn to utilize the spiritual facts of being to eradicate false material beliefs. It reduces to human apprehension the realities of divine being, and reveals the real identity of man as God's image. An understanding of man's relationship to the Father is indispensable to the demonstration of divine power. With this spiritual understanding, Christ Jesus reached the sublime heights of scientific spiritual healing.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you," said Jesus, stating his unity with God, "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise." He never failed to identify himself as the reflection of God. His glorious demonstrations of healing were the result of his achieving the ability continuously to obey the divine will. His words were with authority because he always identified himself as God's idea. He knew that God sustained his spiritual identity by divine law, and he thought and acted from the standpoint of individual spiritual perfection, thereby healing sickness and destroying sin.

To be conscious of man's unity with God empowers us to utilize the divine law of healing here and now, even as Jesus taught and demonstrated it. Man's spiritual individuality, which God sustains, and which is ever at one with Him, is endued by reflection with all the divine qualities. Knowing this, Christ Jesus could say, "For what things soever he [God] doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."
