Many beautiful healings have proved to me and mine the efficacy of Christian Science. Feeling that a written expression of thanks might help other seekers of Truth to partake of the heavenly manna which comes to us all when we diligently seek it, I give this testimony.
Twenty years ago, when Christian Science was first presented to me by a loving friend, I was a helpless sufferer from stomach trouble of many years' standing. At that time, I had also passed through a severe attack of influenza, pneumonia, and pleurisy, which had left me with a weakened heart. Doctors were doubtful whether I should ever recover sufficiently to take up my business activity. Since I had no income and no prospect of a position, fear dominated my thinking. I was despondent and had no courage to fight.
I shall never forget the glorious feeling of peace and comfort that came to me when I first attended a Sunday morning service at a Christian Science church. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." The seed of unselfish love had fallen on fertile ground. I saw a glimpse of light, and later secured the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and became a regular attendant at church. But because I had lived in an atmosphere of materia medica and had led a very material life, my progress was slow. I had to unlearn a great deal, but with the loving help of a practitioner I learned to follow the example of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who said (Poems, p. 14):
