Not in the tumult of the world,
The way of life we win;
Not through the clamor of self-will,
The happy entering in.
We know Thy presence only when
All human strife is stilled;
We hear Thy voice and joy to find
Thy praise in us fulfilled.
Give us, O God, the listening ear,
The heart that waits on Thee,
Serene in patient, loving trust
And deep tranquillity.
Enfold us in Thy stillness, Lord,
Our restfulness increase,
Bless Thou each heart and crown our lives
With Thy abiding peace.
