Christian Science was presented...

From the August 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was presented to me at a time when I greatly needed it, for I was depressed, unsatisfied, and without hope. I had a devoted family and all my material needs were generously met, but this was not enough. For twenty years I had not been able to pray, because I did not know to whom I was praying, and during this time I had been to church perhaps half a dozen times. In my longing for an understanding of Life, I started to visit the churches of different denominations, and so paid my first visit to a Christian Science church.

The service brought me the understanding that Christian Science is logical, reasonable, and impersonal. For some months I thought of Christian Science intermittently, but it was not until my physical need was very great and I had no other way to turn, that I began the study of Science. I realize now that mortal mind with its seeming suggestions was but trying to keep me blind to this great opportunity and the new way that lay ahead, not only for me, but for my family.

For some time I had been given hypodermics every four hours and a great deal of sleeping medicine at night, and for years before this I had been dependent on other forms of drugs and stimulants. On the third day of a practitioner's work, the earnest desire to give up all these things came to me, and I have never been tempted to take them since.
