The experiences of the children of Israel, especially those recounted in Exodus and Joshua, are of particular interest to the student of Christian Science. These experiences illustrate the mental states of a Christian Scientist in his journey out of material beliefs into the promised land of harmony. As the children of Israel were guided and protected, and as they were given strength and understanding to overcome obstacles and difficulties, so the same divine Love is today directing and governing the Christian Scientist.
The message to the children of Israel, "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared," comes now to us. The promised land of Truth is prepared and is waiting for us: it has never changed, and it has never moved. It has always been standing ready for all to attain.
Many times our delay in attaining spiritual growth has been caused by our failure to follow the instructions and obey the mandates of divine Mind as given to us in the Bible and in Christian Science. There is too much passive standing and waiting, thinking that Truth will send us the desired demonstration, instead of resolutely following spiritual guidance, ready to meet and master any adversity that may appear. As we go forward there comes to us the joyous experience of overcoming adverse conditions and successfully mastering mortal mind's interferences. And each one of these victories adds not only to our strength, but to our knowledge of God, spiritual understanding, and progress.
