MAKING RIGHT DECISIONS

From the August 1940 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Your decisions will master you," writes Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on page 392 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The truth of this statement is verified in the ordinary experiences of daily life, as well as in the exigencies of world affairs. As the poet James Russell Lowell has so impressively written:

Once to every man and nation
Comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of Truth with falsehood,
For the good or evil side.

Perhaps there never was a time in human history when the arena of strife between Truth and error was so broadly outlined to human apprehension as at the present time. Where the line of demarcation between good and evil seems obscure and undetermined, the making of right decisions appears involved in confusing perplexities. How shall one decide what is right? The Apostle James gives a most satisfactory answer to this question where he says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
