In the Scriptures we find two seemingly opposing statements: David's words to Goliath, "The battle is the Lord's," and the prophet Habakkuk's words of praise to God, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." To harmonize these seemingly conflicting statements one must see, through the teachings of Christian Science, that God, good, divine Principle, is All, filling all space, and therefore evil in any form must of necessity be nonexistent, nothing.
The ability to reject evil as nothing unfolds as the student progresses in the study of Christian Science, and all who really espouse this teaching may see, understand, and prove evil unreal, nothing, for themselves and for others. Christ Jesus healed the sick, made the winds to cease, the waves to be still, and raised the dead on the basis of the unreality of evil, and the ever-operative energy of good, of Spirit; and he taught his disciples how to do their work on the same basis.
The great Master did not prove completely the nothingness of evil in a day. His acknowledging and knowing of the truth were from the standpoint of the oneness of God and man, and he practically applied his understanding in meeting human situations, as when he "made a scourge of small cords" and drove out of the temple those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves.
