Jesus regarded his works as the best evidence of the truthfulness of his claim to his divine mission. The works of Jesus are as important as his words, and both must be spiritually understood in order that there may be healing through Mind. All of Jesus' works, when studied in the light of Christian Science, are seen to prove what God is and what man is as His image. The spiritual grasp of these all-important facts, which are the true basis for all Christian Science demonstration, confers the power to heal spiritually.
Christian Scientists are grateful for all the benefits experienced in their human affairs through the study and earnest practice of their religion, but they do not confine their gratitude to effects visible to human sight. In other words, they regard the outward evidence of improvement in health, morals, and other conditions as recognizable proofs of a measure of spiritual advancement, and expect still higher proofs to accompany increasing understanding. Their gratitude is based on their improved understanding of God and man in His image, and of the consequent nothingness of matter.
All material beliefs, whether called good or bad, are limitations. Even to human sense, there are definite limitations in matter and its operations. Fortunately, however, none are restricted to thinking in terms of matter. All are free to think in terms of the nature and quality of infinite Spirit, and there are no limitations in God's response to spiritual desire or true prayer. It is right to know that one can understand and obey God, and wrong to think that one cannot do so.
