TRUE GIVING AND RECEIVING

From the December 1941 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Giving and receiving have always been actively manifested in human experience. But today, perhaps more than ever before, the demand for giving in all departments of daily affairs raises the cry that the supply, or receiving, is incommensurate or inadequate.

From the material standpoint, receiving means coming into possession of something one did not own before, and giving involves a parting with or separation from that which one already owns, even a depriving, at times, to the point of what is termed sacrifice and loss.

The teachings of Christian Science are applicable to the solution of all human problems. Thus, a spiritual understanding of Christian Science adjusts the variable equation of giving and receiving, and shows that these two activities have a reciprocal relationship, and are in fact inseparable.
