To state properly and adequately my sincere and lasting appreciation for all the good that has come to me and mine through Christian Science seems a task well-nigh impossible of accomplishment. Words do not seem to convey more than a modicum of the abiding gratitude I wish to express. I am grateful not only for the many physical, financial, and moral benefits it has brought into my life, but even more for the spiritual growth and development with which I have been blessed.
I first turned to Christian Science for help about twenty-six years ago. At the time I had been compelled to give up my position and was being treated by one of the best physicians in Chicago. One remedy after another was tried—medicine, diet, change of climate, electricity, and even mental suggestion—without any improvement being manifested. In fact, I steadily grew worse. I could not walk without staggering, ate little, and could sleep but a few minutes at a time. My condition seemed indeed quite hopeless.
While walking slowly around the block in which I was living, I entered an apartment building where I knew a Christian Science practitioner lived. I had not intended to call upon her, and I scarcely realized what I was doing when I rang the doorbell.
