Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines "Christ" as "the divine manifestation of God. which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 583). The Christ, manifested by Jesus, which, he said, existed "before Abraham was," is now clearly revealed through the teachings of Christian Science, as Truth, supreme above the false beliefs of mortal mind. Christ, or Truth, understood, dispels anything unlike the divine presence and enables one to demonstrate dominion and peace. This profound truth becomes a priceless possession, through which the thinking of every earnest seeker is transformed, and healing and freedom are experienced.
To apprehend Christ, Truth, thought must turn from matter to the realm of divine intelligence. Jesus was able to demonstrate the Christ because of what he knew of God, man. and the universe. He taught and proved the eternal truth clearly and completely. His demonstrations of healing were through spiritual means alone. As we apprehend the Christ, Truth, the human senses are silenced through spiritual understanding. The Apostle Paul said, "The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
We gain the understanding of the Christ here and now as we recognize our sonship with God, and know that the Christ-idea is the divine manifestation of Spirit. Through this knowledge one receives a demonstrable concept of the Christ as revealed by Jesus. Christ, Truth, is an ever-present divine influence, the expression of infinite good.
