In 1927 I took up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. I had been under the care of different physicians for about two years after a nervous breakdown, without finding any relief, when Christian Science was presented to me. The healing was slow, but through the loving help of a practitioner and my intensive study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the light of Truth dawned upon my consciousness. The vision was so grand that it has always been my stay in times of trial. During this testing time the words of Christ Jesus, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," always came to me the first thing in the morning, and as I learned to obey this "still small voice" the understanding and healing came.
Varicose veins were healed at this time; also the coffee habit, through my knowing that God's child has no false appetite. As a result of my husband's reading of Science and Health, the smoking habit left him, and a condition of the knee which had impaired his walking was healed through Christian Science. Our daughter was healed instantaneously of German measles, and a boil that appeared in the armpit disappeared in three days after work had been taken up. A painful growth on the ball of her foot fell off after two weeks' treatment. We are very grateful for these healings, and also for the practitioners who so lovingly give us help in time of need.
In "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp.19,20) Mrs. Eddy says: "The spiritual sense of Life and its grand pursuits is of itself a bliss, health-giving and joy-inspiring. This sense of Life illumes our pathway with the radiance of divine Love; heals man spontaneously, morally and physically,— exhaling the aroma of Jesus' own words, 'Come unto me. all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' "
