A BROTHER'S NEED

From the March 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In ancient times a love unselfed, replete,
Inspired their hearts who bore the helpless one
Through crowded lanes, aglare with tropic sun,
That they might lay him at the Master's feet.

Though ever-widening throngs debarred the door,
They gained the roof top, then so tenderly
Let down the couch, and heard that blest decree:
Arise, be whole! Depart, and sin no more.

In other times the Word of Truth was given
To one whose waiting thought gave instant heed;
She toiled, and prayed that all mankind be freed,
And know true health and peace, the realm of heaven.

She turns our gaze to wondrous views above
The mists of fear, discouragement, suspense,
And in the light of God's omnipotence
Reveals to us the throne of Life and Love.
