Many alert thinkers of today have raised their voices to declare that the great need of mankind is a revival of religion. Such signs of the times are welcome, for only through increased spiritual understanding can genuine peace be established on earth.
Students of Christian Science have already found the way to this spiritual understanding in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. In this textbook is to be found the very essence of a true religious revival. Therefore, mankind's need is to accept and put into practice that which is available to all in Christian Science, the revelation which is destined to deliver men from every ill "that flesh is heir to" and restore to them their divine birthright of freedom and dominion.
Students of Christian Science have proved for themselves again and again the manifold blessings of Christian Science, and they feel a deep and genuine gratitude for the progress of the movement. Yet, they are conscious of a need for renewed consecration to Truth, for still fuller devotion to the greatest of all causes, the Cause of mankind's redemption and salvation from the delusions of material existence. In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p.176) our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, asks these pertinent questions: "But what of ourselves, and our times and obligations? Are we duly aware of our own great opportunities and responsibilities? Are we prepared to meet and improve them, to act up to the acme of divine energy wherewith we are armored?" It is a wholesome thing for us as her followers to ask ourselves: What are we doing about it? Are we working up to our highest understanding of Christian Science, or are we satisfied with the benefits we have received from it and willing to loiter a little longer in ease in matter?
