Angels are with you now, O steadfast one!
They thrust the sword of Spirit in your hand;
They buckle winged shoes upon your feet;
They lift your eyes above earth's dull despair
To see the present glory of the Lord.
Michael is leading—spiritual strength —
And Gabriel, in ever-present love,
Is showing forth his gentle ministry.
But we are legion, hiss the evil hosts,
We are almighty, none can stay our hand.
Arise, 0 friend, in this your darkest hour.
Angels are ready now to rout the foe,
To utterly dispel and nullify
The self-inflated monster of a dream
And all that would oppose itself to God.
An angel came to Hagar in distress
And showed sweet water in the wilderness.
Angels appeared with chariots of fire
To save the prophet from encirclement.
An angel closed the savage lions' mouths
As Daniel stood his ground courageously.
For angels are the holy thoughts of God,
Unconquerable, ever conquering;
Replenished constantly, replenishing
Wherever seeming lack presents itself.
Angels are with you, all the heavenly hosts,
Expressing now the majesty of God!
