DIVINE DIRECTION

From the July 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Today air-line pilots fly their planes from point to point in accordance with a radio direction beam. This may be taken to illustrate the light of Christian Science, by means of which material discords, such as sin, sickness, lack, and so forth, attempting to separate us from the one Mind, are avoided. One finds that he need not yield or consent to inharmonious conditions, since they are temptations of material sense. He may avoid them through an understanding of Christian Science, and thereby gain a lesson in keeping to the true course.

Discord of any nature is wholly unknown to God, infinite good, and likewise unknown to the man of His creating. The real man never loses his unity with God, but is eternally receiving and expressing health, joy, abundance, peace, harmony. Divine Mind and man are inseparable as cause and effect. In Mind's allness and oneness lie man's completeness, satisfaction, and harmony.

The Scriptures state that "every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." The good and perfect gifts which Mind bestows are loving, spiritual ideas, since God is also Spirit and Love. It is heartening to know that these are continuous, unfailing ideas, since God, "with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning," is also revealed as divine Principle. Spiritual ideas meet our human needs. They cannot be accumulated, since they are possessed by reflection and used through sharing. The student learns through the teachings of Christian Science to differentiate between divine Mind's spiritual ideas and mortal mind's false carnal beliefs, and thus to maintain his oneness with God; and he does this through true prayer.
