"THE FACE OF THE WATERS"

From the July 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the first chapter of Genesis it is recorded: "The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Herein are represented the darkness of ignorance and the unfolding revelation of spiritual creation.

The human mind holds a material concept of creation until it is transformed through spiritual understanding. On page 95 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth." Thought must be clarified in order that one may realize his God-given dominion over the beliefs of materiality.

With the dawning of spiritual light upon the human consciousness one begins to understand the divine Principle which governs the spiritual universe and man. Whatever the material senses may claim of human experience, whether it be of an inharmonious physical condition or of other affairs, it is false. Sin, disease, lack, sorrow, and death are but expressions of mortal mind, which spiritual sense will replace with righteousness, health, prosperity, joy, and a true sense of life.
