My work being electric meter testing, many occasions arise when it is necessary to handle electric wires which are energized. Recently, while I was testing a certain part of a meter, a "flash arc" took place in close proximity to my left eye. Immediately the passage from "Rudimental Divine Science" by Mary Baker Eddy came to me (pp. 5,6): "Destroy the five senses as organized matter, and you must either become non-existent, or exist in Mind only; and this latter conclusion is the simple solution of the problem of being, and leads to the equal inference that there is no matter." This occurred in the early afternoon, but I finished the day's work and drove forty miles home. About three o'clock the next morning, piercing pain awakened me. I declared the truth, and finally went to bed again and slept soundly until morning.
Since my company requires accident reports, one was made out, and I was sent to an eye specialist, because the eye seemed reddish. All the time in the doctor's presence I kept knowing the truth, and as soon as I could after leaving I called a Christian Science practitioner. The doctor's advice that cold packs be used was not followed, but loving work was done by the practitioner and I studied steadily myself, and in three days the specialist reported that the eye was all right.
