When I was a child I became a member of one of the Protestant churches, but as I grew older and began to think and reason for myself I could not accept its teachings. I felt that there surely must be a better explanation of God and His universe than that which had been presented to me, so I drifted away from that church.
Later on, while I was still in school, my mother became interested in Christian Science. She tried to get me interested also, but by that time I was determined to become a trained nurse, which I proceeded to do. Nevertheless I asked many questions about this new-old religion, read the articles in the periodicals my mother asked me to read, and soon began to realize that this was what my concept of religion should be. After several years cf reading a little here and there and giving heed to the answers to my numerous questions, I found that I was healed of chronic indigestion, and that undesirable traits of character were being corrected.
Several years passed. Then came an experience for which I shall always be grateful, for it proved to be an awakening from mere drifting. I was taking care of my sister and her husband, who were both suffering from light attacks of influenza, and were under medical care. One morning I realized that I too was manifesting decided symptoms of this same difficulty. I thought to myself, Here is my chance to try Christian Science. I knew how little materia medica had to offer—at best it meant days in bed, for my own case seemed to be much more severe than that of my sister or her husband.
