SAFETY

From the August 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." When evil comes in like a flood, bringing in its wake destruction and desolation, these words from the ninety-third Psalm are indeed a comforting assurance. Regardless of evil's seeming power to destroy, there is a place of refuge for those who have glimpsed the truth. The way to "the secret place of the most High" is through the lifting of thought above the waves of error and the realization of the omnipotence of God and the power of His law.

Some may say that the promises of the Bible are very beautiful and comforting, but ask how they can bring freedom, protection, and security; how they can be made practical in daily life. Deeply embedded in the human consciousness is a desire for protection and security, as well as for an understanding of what life really is. One who has not known the truth as revealed in Christian Science, nor studied the Scriptures in this light, would base his reasoning on the belief in the reality of matter and its supposed laws. It is often overlooked that a humble desire and a willingness to give up false gods are necessary if one would realize the truth about God as the only Life and man as His image and likeness. This discernment brings an assurance of continuous well-being.

In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has indeed given us the inspiration and enlightenment necessary for the earnest consideration and study of this all-important question. On page 468 she writes: "Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. Life is without beginning and without end." Christian Science, based upon the Bible, reveals God as the only cause and creator. It must follow, therefore, that error is causeless, without law to support it. Acknowledging God as omnipresent, students of Christian Science find great confidence in turning to the divine source for guidance and protection. The fears that beset mortal existence begin to disappear, and the ability to hold to the truth of being is gained.
