MICHAEL AND HIS ANGELS FOUGHT

From the August 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven."—Revelation 12:7, 8.

Michael and his angels fought, and they fought first;
They did not wait to be assailed.
The dragon and his angels fought and failed;
For right is might and right has e'er prevailed.
Michael the offensive took; he did not wait
For better time or place to strike the foe.
He fought and proved the power of God
To lay the dragon low.

So evil was cast out, with its defiant hosts
Of fearful threats, deluding lies, and loud pretentious boasts.
Their place in heaven no more was found.
There was no place in conscious good for evil to abound;
And Love proclaimed in triumph her sweet primeval strain,
That good alone, God and His Christ, forevermore should reign.
