COMPREHENSIVE CONSCIOUSNESS

From the August 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The words found on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" in what is known as "the scientific statement of being" have revolutionized human thought in a major degree. This statement presents a new concept of Deity and of the universe of reality, and accordingly has revolutionized the basis of the world's religions. None before had recognized the great truth it sets forth, that nothing exists, has reality or being, apart from this Mind, which is God, and its infinite expression, the universe of spiritual ideas. This sublime truth constitutes the foundation and platform of Christian Science. From it is evolved the Science of Christianity, which, if understood and applied, heals the sick, reforms the sinner, and swings wide the very gates of the heavenly kingdom.

Mind, God, connotes consciousness. That is to say. Mind, which is infinite and which, with its manifestation, constitutes all reality, without consciousness would be an anomaly, an impossibility. Logically, then, it may be declared with equal justification that all is infinite consciousness and the infinite idea of which it is conscious. This definitely presents the great truth that infinite Mind must be, is, infinitely, divinely conscious, that is, aware of all its perfect ideas, conscious of all that exists, of the universe in its entirety. To put it another way, nothing exists or has being outside of or apart from this divine consciousness.

It follows, then, since Mind, consciousness, expresses itself in its ideas, infinite in number, that these ideas, individually and severally, are conscious, reflecting or expressing the divine consciousness. And since Mind is infinite, and its ideas constitute the universe, there is, then, in reality no unconsciousness.
