Testimonies of Healing

"Gratitude is much more than a...

From the December 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech," says Mrs. Eddy on page 3 of Science and Health. Recently I had a beautiful healing of a broken arm. I got up early one morning to catch a train to attend the Mothers' Day activities at my children's college. As it was very early and the house was dark, I stumbled over a stool and fell. When I tried to get up, my arm was useless. "There is no power apart from God" (ibid., p. 228) came to my thought. I called a practitioner for help, explaining what had occurred, and she took up work immediately in Christian Science and agreed with me that I should go on with my trip, a distance of some two hundred and fifty miles. The ride on the train was very enjoyable and I studied a Sentinel.

After I arrived at the college town, those who met me insisted that I go to the school hospital and have the arm looked at. The doctor in charge X-rayed the arm, and the pictures showed that it was completely broken off at the socket. He was not allowed to take care of nonstudent patients, but he put the arm in a sling and advised me to go to a surgeon and have it put in a cast immediately. I remained in town for the activities for the week end and was able to enjoy myself with the others, and did not have it set until I returned to my home. I did not have a cast, but instead used a sling for about two weeks. Eight days after the incident I assisted with the family washing and did the ironing for three people. In two months' time my arm was normal. To me this was a wonderful proof of God's healing power.

Another lovely healing in our family was that of croup when our daughter was a year old. When we went to the child's bed she was gasping for breath. We called a practitioner for help and immediately the child fell asleep, completely free.
