In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 372), our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, lovingly reminds us, "In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." Because of the guidance and numerous blessings I have been enjoying as a result of the study and application of Christian Science, since it was recommended to me by an earnest student over eighteen years ago, I naturally want to offer this testimony.
From childhood and during my early twenties, I endured continued illnesses. A prominent physician in Chicago could not specifically diagnose the trouble, and had me resort to much medication, surgery, and enforced rest periods, but without favorable results. Then he recommended that I enter a sanitarium in the southwestern part of the country, for he believed I might obtain some measure of relief. Reluctant to leave familiar scenes, relatives, and friends, I turned to Christian Science. Slowly but certainly changes for the better became increasingly evident, until the conditions for which I had been doctoring disappeared.
I studied Science and Health and the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, attended a number of Christian Science lectures, received help through sincere practitioners, and now I understand better Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 2): "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness."
