In these days of stress and turmoil it seems fitting that those who have experienced the blessings of God's protection through a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science, should express their gratitude in order to help others facing similar experiences. As one who has been through the Battle of Britain, I am grateful to give this testimony.
The first night that I experienced the ordeal of an air raid in London, where I lived, I decided that as far as possible I would live my normal life, go to bed each night and attend my place of business during the day. It came to me so clearly that if I allowed myself to go to a shelter (and one had been prepared in the basement of my house by the Westminster Corporation), I should eventually be driven from pillar to post in a vain search for safety.
For many months, as the world knows, the battle went on night and day with little cessation. The business where I am a partner was never closed on account of a raid, and we were often enabled to help and comfort people who were in fear of the bombing. On two mornings we found, on arriving, that all the books had been flung from the shelves onto the floor, along with a great deal of plaster and dust, but although we had much pottery about, none of it was broken.
