For the healings I have experienced and witnessed through the application of Christian Science I wish to express my sincere gratitude to God.
On page 454 of the textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." And so it was that more than twenty-five years ago I was led to investigate Christian Science. After years of doctoring and weariness I was told by our family physician that I had tuberculosis and he could do nothing more for me; that change of climate might be of temporary benefit, but that he could hold out no hope of permanent cure. Several members of my immediate family having passed on with this malady after drugs and climate had failed to cure them, I was firmly convinced that the disease was incurable.
Just at this time, when I was trying to reconcile my thought to the verdict that at no distant time I should be separated from my loved ones, who had already made many sacrifices that I might have the benefit of a favorable climate, the pastor of the orthodox church of which I was at that time a member advertised that on a given date he would preach a sermon on Christian Science. I attended this service. The sermon consisted of exaggerated and untrue statements regarding Mrs. Eddy's character and work. I was interested principally in the hope that it held of healing, and I was resolved to try it.
