Shelter safely in Love's keeping,
When the storms of sense are sweeping
Like a torrent from the ocean.
On the rock of Truth unmoving,
Take thy stand, and by thy proving
Test its steadfastness and strength.
Power is not within the ocean.
Which in vain and troubled motion
Falls in spray, or mist and shower.
Power is not in ebb and flowing,
Nor in loud wind wildly blowing,
With its shriek or wail or sigh.
Hark! Around thee, over, under,
Rolls the everlasting thunder
Of the Great Commander's power.
God is Love, eternal wonder!
In His law thy life is rooted,
In His law thy safety resteth,
In His law. There is none other!
