What, dear God, of these allegiant hosts of men
Stumbling and fighting through the dark?
O God, is this Thy plan for them? What then
Of kindness, or the singing lark
That lifts on freedom's wings its tiny frame
And soars and soars in joyous being?
What then of inspiration? Oh, let Thy name
Be known, Thou God of hosts, in perfect freeing!
