The words of a well-loved hymn (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 280), "Praise, my soul, the King of heaven," echo in my thought as I seek to testify to some of the immeasurable good brought into my life by Christian Science. For many years I had suffered from colds, spinal neuralgia, and nervous headaches. Attacks of influenza had become habitual at each succeeding spring and autumn season, involving much discouragement as well as financial loss.
Just before the opening of the last World War two doctors had given the verdict that an operation on the nose and throat was urgent if I wished to continue in my profession. Reluctantly I gave in to this opinion and prepared for the operation to take place during the forthcoming vacation. Meanwhile, unexpected circumstances brought me into close contact with sincere students of Christian Science. Association with these students revealed the practical effect of their study in the overcoming of fear and difficulties connected with rationing and other war problems not only for themselves but for those in their immediate circle. They took me to lectures and encouraged me to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science literature.
When the time for the operation arrived there was no longer any need for it, for all obstruction and other discordant symptoms had disappeared. Since that time, in addition to many other healings, threatenings of influenza have been met almost instantaneously, sometimes with the help of faithful practitioners and always without any loss of time from my work or period of convalescence.
