"Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."
For many years I have had continuous proof that God is omnipotent. Having been reared in a Christian Science home, and having attended the Christian Science Sunday School in my youth, I have never known any other physician than God. The few childhood diseases which presented themselves were quickly healed by Christian Science. At school, especially in college, I had many opportunities to apply my knowledge of Christian Science to problems such as homesickness, loneliness, and classroom work, as well as to sickness. The local branch churches and the Christian Science Organization of the university provided much inspiration.
One healing in particular stands out. A library course I was taking required constant reading. Among the students there was talk of eyestrain, and I was asked when I would start wearing glasses—as most of the others did. Unable to meet these erroneous suggestions myself, I had help from a practitioner, who gave me these two helpful thoughts: first, guard against criticism, for when we criticize we are not seeing God's man, and of course such sight is imperfect; secondly, remember Shakespeare's truism, "The quality of mercy is not strained." Mercy is of God, and man possesses all the qualities of God by divine right without restraint. Needless to say, I was able to complete the course without glasses.
