MESSAGE AND MANIFESTATION

From the August 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the reality of being, message and manifestation are co-ordinate and simultaneous in action. This was proved in the experience of Christ Jesus. He spoke the word and the sick were healed. Onlookers were amazed and said, "What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out." Because God gave him the message to speak, the manifestation was instantaneous.

Mary Baker Eddy refers to Christ as both "the divine message" and "the divine manifestation" when she says on page 332 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." On page 583 she speaks of the Christ as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error."

The Christ-message spiritualizes the thought of mankind. Its divine origin is made manifest in mental, moral, and physical healing; and this manifestation of good is inseparable from the message. This is in accord with the law of God, in which the divine decree, or message, is instantly carried out or manifested. Impelled by God, "the divine message" speaks the truth and "the divine manifestation" acts to accomplish good.
